Regina Mulenga

Board Member

Biography

Regina is a seasoned banker with more than 28 years’ experience in global financial institutions such as Barclays Bank, Citi bank, HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank.

Her diverse experience and expertise in banking include Strategic business transformation, Credit Risk Management, Transactional banking, Corporate finance, Operational process and Risk management, Regulatory and Governance management.

Regina’s wide work experience has given her the opportunity to provide strategic thought leadership in the establishment of viable inclusive financial services for SMEs, development of Trade Finance solutions and products, establishment of bank operational processes and system efficiencies among other achievements. In her last role as Consumer and Business Banking Director at Barclays Bank Zambia PLC she was responsible for leading and establishing the strategic direction for one of the largest consumer and business banking businesses in the Zambian banking industry.

Regina was appointed as Zanaco Board Member in March 2021. She currently also serves as a member on the Bank of Zambia – Kwacha Pension Trust Fund’s Board of Trustees and earlier served as Co-ordinator for the establishment of the NABII.

In the past, she has served as Board member and Vice-Chairperson at the National Institute for Scientific & Industrial Research (NISIR) and Microfinance Zambia Limited and as a board committee member on the ZSIC Life Finance and Investment Board Committee.

Regina is a graduate of Lincolnshire & Humberside University, England with a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA).

Carl Jensen

Board Vice Chairperson

Biography

Carl is the CEO of Good Nature Agro, a for-profit social enterprise that links over 11,000 smallholders to quality markets and critical services. He is also a farmer, hailing from a multi-generational family farm in the United States. Carl completed his MSc in Int. Agricultural Development from UC Davis, with a focus on soil management and business before launching Good Nature in 2014 with his co-founders, Sunday and Kellan.

Mutumboi Mundia is a multi-skilled internationa professional driven by passion and commitment to purposefully contributing to transformational and sustainable development. Hard working and meticulous, with expertise in regulation and policy formulation, business strategy, market development, financial analysis, etc.

She has a proven track record of demonstrating creativity in problem-solving; spearheading sophisticated innovative initiatives and strategies; facilitating pragmatic decision-making; possessing strong entrepreneurial ability in leading teams; and a commitment to generating a high quality work product.

Simunza Muyangana

Board Chairperson

Biography

Simunza has a wealth of experience, including his expertise and knowledge from his current role as support lead for entrepreneurs at BongoHive, Lusaka’s first innovation and technology hub. BongoHive provides a range of start-up and tech programs, workshops, and events focused on making Zambia Africa’s next hotbed of innovation.

Before joining BongoHive, Simunza worked at a marketing and telecommunication consultancy in South Africa. He is a Swedish Institute of Management fellow and serves on the boards of the Zambia Business Angel Network, Copper Rose Zambia, Flutterwave Zambia, and the Southern Africa Innovation Collective.

Peter Chintu

Programmes Manager

Biography

Peter has five years of dedicated experience in impact investing, development consulting , and business development, my professional journey has been marked by significant accomplishments and a comprehensive skill set. In his current role as Programmes Manager at NABII, he excels in impact investment initiatives, leading successful stakeholder management strategies. This includes raising substantial funding to support market development initiatives within the Zambian Impact Investment Ecosystem. He has honed his skills in project management, budgeting, financial reporting, and procurement.

In business development, he has played a crucial role as the Business Development Lead at 4IP Group LLC. Here, he crafted and executed comprehensive marketing plans and business strategies, contributing to the company’s growth and success. Under the UNDP Accelerate2030 Programme, he provided financial services support to SMEs, offering coaching and mentorship. Notably, he developed the company’s proprietary ESG Toolkit and implemented a successful product testing strategy, resulting in increased market penetration across Zambia, Malawi, and Botswana. His proficiency extends to customer relationship management, evidenced by the establishment and maintenance of strategic partnerships through quarterly webinar series.

Complementing my practical experience, my academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Zambia. He has further strengthened his skills with certificates in Econometric Modeling, Project Management, and Social/Qualitative Research. These academic foundations, coupled with his hands-on experience, position him as a versatile professional capable of navigating the complex landscape of impact investing, business development, and programme management. In addition to his domain-specific skills, he brings to the table a robust set of managerial abilities, including effective communication, strategic planning, and organisational skills—attributes essential for success in the role of a Programme Manager.

Sharon Sakuwaha

Biography

Sharon identifies and helps manage legal risk by seeing beyond immediate legal challenges to allow clients to seize the opportunities that lie ahead. She recognizes the importance of practical and actionable advice. She has broad experience working on commercial transactions, often high stakes transactions and ground breaking deals.

As a lifetime learner, she is passionate about the pursuit of knowledge and understanding which helps her to be market aware, connect the dots to see the bigger picture and create a real competitive advantage for her clients.

Sharon Sakuwaha is described as “the face of M&A and major transactions” at the firm. She leads the banking and M&A team and is regarded as “articulate” by clients. She is engaged by clients from a range of industries, including both public and private sector organisations and groups.

Basil Nundwe

Biography

Civil/Structural Engineer turned Private Equity (PE) Fund Manager and thereafter CEO of the largest grinding media manufacturing company in Zambia for 4 years before going back into PE. Basil has over 18 years’ postgraduate work experience: more than two thirds of which was in private equity. Started as a Junior Engineer (1986) with Brian Colquhoun Consulting Engineers and exited the engineering profession as Associate Partner (1991) to join Zambia Capital Partners (member of the CDC group of companies) as Senior Investment Manager rising through the ranks to Partner status in Aureos Capital.

Beatrice Nkanza

Biography

Beatrice has served more then 30 years combined services in Banking, Pensions, capital markets and Insurance. She has now honed in her expertise in Women and Youth financial literacy, Entrepreneurial Mentorship and general Leadership and Empowerment.

She has attended numerous Leadership and Empowerment seminars in UK, Kenya and Botswana under the British Council Leadership programmes.

Beatrice also offers Financial and Investment planning services for retirement and empowerment. She is a founding member of Mfumukazi Empowerment Group (MKEG), an investment vehicle established by a group of Zambian women to invest for empowerment.

She currently writes a blog focusing on understanding money and the mindset of savings culture.

Dr. Austin Mwape

Biography

Austin is an experienced senior financial sector consultant with a demonstrated history of working in the Central Bank and doing consultancy work for key Multilateral Institutions (World Bank & UNDP) . Skilled in Bank Supervision, Enterprise wide Risk Management, Policy Analysis, Development Economics, and Analytical Skills. Strong finance professional with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) focused in Finance from University of London.
